1134139 2010-09-02 21:51:00 So we have a power issue.

It seems that when the computers are runnng and the dryer is switched on it has the potential to push the current higher than the breaker (not sure about this terminology) and trip the circuit.

This is bad as the entire computer room loses power shutting down everything in it in the worst way possible.

I know the simple answer is to shut down the computers but this is not practical as the dryer is used at all hours and the main three desktops are on 24/7.

Does anyone have a practical solution to this?

1134140 2010-09-02 21:56:00 Get someone to check the power. It sounds a bit screwy Speedy Gonzales (78)
1134141 2010-09-02 22:13:00 Well there is a fair amount of stuff in the computer room

3 desktops
5 monitors
lamp
modem
battery charger
two printers
dock
2 sets of speakers
Couple of laptop chargers

Most of it is always running also.

1134142 2010-09-02 22:17:00 Sounds like its overloading. How many power points are in the room? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1134143 2010-09-02 22:18:00 Wow 5 monitors? Could you use a kvm setup or something? nedkelly (9059)
1134144 2010-09-02 22:24:00 Yes I think overloading is the cause.
I remember when I was a kid Dad fixing a overload by putting in a bigger wire, I know nothing about electricity but is this a option?

Ned 2 main desktops 2 monitors each hardly extreme.
1 for the server.

1134145 2010-09-02 22:25:00 Cant see why not, it'll probably have to be re-wired (the house). Youre not plugging all of these into one power point are you Speedy Gonzales (78)
1134146 2010-09-02 22:31:00 No there are two physical points in the room DeSade (984)
1134147 2010-09-02 22:32:00 Probably need a few more power points. Which may fix it. 9 / 10 on each sounds a bit too much Speedy Gonzales (78)
1134148 2010-09-02 22:34:00 It is too much and I don't really like it like that but there isn't a lot of choice.
Sparkys are expensive.
