1133840 2010-09-02 04:45:00 I have 2 Telecom boxes in our house, 1 in the kitchen and 1 in the bedroom.
We have nothing in the box in the bedroom. In the kitchen we have a new Panasonic cordless phone and a DLINK Wireless router. I have 1 filter in this box with the phone and the router plugged into it. We use 2 laptops to connect to the Internet both wireless.
My question is how important is the filter?
The filter I am using is like 5 years old so I would like to replace it what should I get? Cheers.

1133841 2010-09-02 04:51:00 I guess by telecom boxes you mean phone jacks?

Why replace the filter if still working?

1133842 2010-09-02 05:24:00 Yes the phone jacks. Well we are having far too many line drops requiring re boots so I want to start there. We may need a new router but I want to start with a new filter. The line drops have only started in the last 2 months.
No problem with the laptops at work.
I want to strat with the cheaper option then if that does not improve get a new router. Cheers.

No need to replace it, they don't wear out or lose efficiency, they either work or they don't. If it is working, leave it alone.

Cheers

1133845 2010-09-02 05:58:00 Why don't you unplug the phone and filter, plug in your router directly and see if you still get dropouts. That will tell you if you have a filter problem. PPp (9511)

Won't hurt to try it. Easier way to test it, unplug everything except the modem, and see if the drop outs continue or not.

I suggest buy the Dynalink filter as they seem to be reliable, only about $11
Good idea to have a spare one anyway.

1133848 2010-09-02 08:40:00 Is that one of the free ISP give-away routers? If so it's probably dying or at least packing up gary67 (56)

The filter I have is a Dynalink about six years old and I will change it when or if it dies.
