| 856379 | 2010-02-08 15:37:00 | Is it possible to run Puppy (www.puppylinux.com) from an SD card? Got a new EEEPC Asus 1005-HAB which I needed for classes and note-taking during lectures, etc. It has Windows 7 in it, and although it's pretty good, well - it's still Windows. Just wondering if the BIOS can point to the SD for boot? Will this netbook accept a dual-boot? So far I haven't looked into the BIOS, as I've just gotten the security and WIFI up-n-runnin'. I used it a few days ago and I got over seven hours on the battery and still had lots to go, so I think the removable battery pack - which has a lot more amp-hours than it's previous model - makes for a really good traveling unit too. |

Netbooks can be dual-booted as they are still computers with boot managers. I believe the 1005HA model can provide up to 8 hours of battery life under the "Hybrid" technology. Works very well; hit esc at boot and select appropriate drive:) Have a look here; www.pendrivelinux.com Lots of choices and I'd recommend Backtrack, it's slick, even if you don't have any wish to be a "mad hacker:eek:". |

| 856385 | 2010-02-08 21:29:00 | My Eee PC runs PCLinuxOS, and it is only a poor old 701 4GB of the original style. For the best start-up, give Windows the boot. Use all that battery life for something useful and if you want to dual boot, kick Windows out with both feet. ;) | R2x1 (4628) | ||
| 856386 | 2010-02-08 22:27:00 | Id think puppy isnt quite so nasty to the Sdcard since it saves its pup2fs file only occasionally as opposed to every time a file changes.I ran puppy for a few months from CD with a usb stick for pup storage file. Also consider SLITAZ distro. |
