855328 2010-02-04 18:13:00 Which may mean that the copyright holders will have to take their issues directly to each and every individual offender... assuming they can even get the identity of the users.

The problem then repeats itself once you know who holds the account with the ISP... the account holder isn't necessarily the person doing the downloading, and as such should find themselves in the same position as the ISP, only implicated in the sense that they pay the bills for the line, but are not offending, and are unable to police everything that flows down those lines 24/7.

At some point the studios will realise the only economic solution is to price their goods at a rate that makes piracy less attractive than legitimate purchase.
This would also require the freedom to copy and backup the media to multiple devices.

Apple got rid of their copy protection.
DRM sucked kumaras.

They've found that enabling consumers to enjoy economical products without strings attached is what sells, and inserting disabling features into their products impeeds sales.

Imagine our surprise... providing consumers with what they want gets more sales than offering them things they don't want... Duh!

855329 2010-02-04 23:50:00 They claimed that iiNet was guilty of copyright infringement for not preventing illegal downloads of films .

There is really no way to stop illegal downloads of films, games etc without punishing those of us who use torrenting for legitimate purposes (Yes, there are legitimate purposes!) .

This whole copyright issue has gone a bit far . IMO, The only real society is a free and open society . :banana

855330 2010-02-05 02:55:00 The true cost of Piracy is heavily over stated . The assumption is everything pirated "would" have been purchased by the user if pirating was not an option .

Of course in reality pirates may have only purchased maybe 1/10 movies or games as most people have limited money for entertainment . Many pirates "still" buy the games and moves they really like which muddles the reality even further .

From your perspective, anyone who disagrees with you is stupid and anyone who agrees with you has common sense.
