855036 2010-02-03 19:22:00 Hi Guys
As an old Dos head from way back in the 1980's sold IBM compatable computers XT and AT etc.

I am always amazed at hard disk sizes and prices.

One of my suppliers sent me their latest SATA 3.5 price list.
The bottom line drive is now a 250 gig drive for under $60 and they now have 2TB drives.

I know all about Moore's law etc but 250 gig as bottom line is just amazing.

It was only a year ago that you could choose between 80 and 160.

(PS just to let you know that I am not a luddite I have just ordered my own second 1TB drive)

Hehe, it was certainly more than a year ago that 80GB and 160GB were the upper end options ;)

855039 2010-02-03 20:37:00 I have two 500 G hd's in my desktop and it is a good  feeling, especially good when remembering those painful :waughh: days of a 2 Gb hd with Win95.

Then there are the USB mem sticks and SD cards: 4, 8, now 16 Gb. Love it.

855044 2010-02-03 21:07:00 Memories ....
During the mid 80's our office ran a UNIX system with an Informix database on a 20 MB machine. This one machine had a varying number of VDU's, usually about 10, linked across four offices on two floors of the building.
My job on a Friday evening, cutting in to my drinking time because it could not be started until the last of the girls had signed off, was to back up to about 20 floppies. Almost invariably number 12 or 13 or 14 would generate a write error which would require that the damn backup had to be restarted. Went through boxes of floppies. :(
