| 855687 | 2010-02-07 08:28:00 | This issue is world wide, the average Pom thinks there country is over run and its a common reason for immigrating here or OZ. In actual fact there are far less immigrants in the US or the UK than here or OZ (per population). en.wikipedia.org Sort the "Immigrants as percentage of national population" Those figures for UK immigrants cannot be taken as gospel. There was, maybe still is, a history of UK governments suppressing or 'playing down' the true figures. I cannot now recall the figures or find an internet reference, but back in the 60s our friend Enoch was reporting figures for immigration numbers from the Indian sub-continent, and for that he was villified yet again, as scaremongering...racist etc. The figures he quoted were 2 or 3 times the official ones, like ~1,200,00, whereas the government figures were ~500,000 (I'm trying to remember back 45 years) However his numbers were confirmed by the Indian High Commission at the time, and who obviously had no axe to grind. Also those Wiki figures do not state whether they include (but most likely they do not), the children and grandchildren of earlier immigrants, second and third generation "immigrants", or whether they are the numbers of later immigrants born in other countries. Talking of Enoch.."The inconvenient truth about immigration: Rageh Omaar asks was Enoch Powell right?" Read more: www.dailymail.co.uk "Each year, around 190,000 immigrants are arriving in this country." That's 1.9 million per 10 years, at that rate it would have taken only 28 years to reach the 5.4 million quoted, ie from 1971 say, but the mass immigration started over 20 years before that from around 1950. |

Legally, there are three lang's in NZ; English, Maori and Sign Language [/smartass] I like to see multi-culturalism around, by all means, celebrate your roots, but please, please don't come to a country and then try and turn it into a 'home away from home'. For the record, I've been to England in the past, what a **** hole. I certainly shared my opinion on things there, but didn't say 'wish it was like back home'. I was there for 3 months. |

Is that not what colonisation was all about? If your not to be a hypocrite then I suggest you immerse yourself fully in Te Reo and Maori culture and reject all things that have been introduction into this fine country at the expense of local traditions. People have a short memory and an exalted narrow view of their own customs, If this place gets over run with Chinese speaking Chinese then so be it, One language isn't superiour to the other, and Mother nature doesn't give a damn how the ants communicate. |

It is rather arrogant of the Anglo-Saxons to expect everyone else to conform to their standards, especially after having taken over other peoples countries. On the other hand if that were not so, then TV programs like "It Ain't Arf Hot, Mum" would not be funny. |

Sign language is to be banned, as it flagrantly discriminates against the blind as well as amputees . Digital sign language, whether single or double digits, may continue as a special case due to it's universal usage . ;) |
