855252 2010-02-06 05:07:00 In all cars I have had in recent years, and in many rentals, the speedo is 3-5 k/m fast.
GPS gives accurate speed. The two Merc's I have has are the only ones that have been accurate at all speeds.

So if the car beside you is doing 95, chances are they are doing 90-92.

855253 2010-02-06 05:52:00 FYI GPS doesn't always give accurate speed readings. apart from the % of error they have (funny how the GPS shows we are driving through the sewage ponds instead of the motorway! ), they have lag and some GPS don't do instantaneous readings, they give an average speed over a distance. tweak'e (69)
855254 2010-02-06 11:17:00 I suppose it will take a while but the anti speeding message might sink in.
Just some people area little thick message not been received. Things lot better now on Auckland motorways than 15 years ago. Then if you were doing 100kph in fast lane you would have people getting real agitated. Now if you go much over 106 you will get a ticket.

Anti-speeding ?
That means drivers in Germany, Italy, France, UK etc where the limit is higher
are all killers.
At the end of the day it is not about the speed, because any speed can kill.
The focus needs to be on the COAST ideas that I posted earlier.

Just a comment on the motorways in NZ.
Firstly a lot of the motorways are poorly designed
and there is no lane discipline on the motorways.

855256 2010-02-06 19:30:00 You mean there is a motorway in NZ "Nah mate ya dreamin" as that ad says. That 2 lane thing in Auckland isn't even close to being a motorway gary67 (56)

Yes sorry you are correct, silly me.

855258 2010-02-08 21:36:00 Auckland's so-called motorway system is a great example of trying to build on a pathetic foundation. It was originally designed - - guess where?

(Probably to ensure that nobody could exceed the speeds dictated by Lucas lights.)

I believe it was designed by the Americans.

855260 2010-02-08 22:31:00 Nope, started in Poverty Rock. (I believe they deported the design.) R2x1 (4628)
855261 2010-02-08 22:50:00 Never worked out why they never connected the auckers motorways together years ago.
Does anyone remember to go onto Southern motorway from North Western you had to go thru Newton and Kyber pass?
I am sure the designer would have come from a place with central planning like Albania.
