1134169 2010-09-03 00:43:00 The 1000 is my dedicated beast of a gaming machine
The 850 is my old gamer now a server
The 800 is another gaming/work/all purpose rig for my flatmate.

1134170 2010-09-03 00:46:00 Actually, I'm not sure my previous answer helps much - lost track of the original question a bit after reading the thread.

Ideally you'd want a UPS on the dryer - your power requirements will go up somewhat, though :). Maybe there's some passive gizmo which can act as a surge suppressor for the dryer, to smooth out the start-up a bit.

1134171 2010-09-03 01:01:00 New power points a couple of hundred, overloaded power system = fire etc = heaps of hundreds. Only one way to go in my thinking. Arnie (6624)

+1

Could you run an extension cord out to the dryer from another circuit, when you need it?

1134173 2010-09-03 01:12:00 I don't have a option there the closest points outside the room are not close enough and with a 4yr old running around the danger of the cord is too great
Dont think he really wants to risk it.

1134174 2010-09-03 01:19:00 While the server may not be drawing the full 850w, it would also depend on the PSU efficiency %.....does it really need such a big PSU?....I think though at the end of the day, you will need a sparky to increase the capacity load of the breaker. It wont take 30min to change, + the part, $100-$150 all up, got to be cheaper thena new PC parts or new house...LOL SolMiester (139)
1134175 2010-09-03 01:27:00 Isn't that what I thought initially Sol, putting in a fatter wire so to speak? DeSade (984)
1134176 2010-09-03 01:31:00 Get a sparky in, if you fiddle and the house burns, you will have no insurance. KarameaDave (15222)
1134177 2010-09-03 01:45:00 Oh I'm not doing it myself, I barely know what a breaker looks like......
Just wanted to be sure of what I was asking him to do.

1134178 2010-09-03 01:49:00 Go with the sparky option - if your wiring's up to scratch it might just mean a new breaker of higher capacity. Otherwise he'll already be there to advise what wiring up a new power point will involve... MushHead (10626)
