855242 2010-02-05 21:36:00 Two Second Gap (between you and the vehicle in front).

Try doing that on a motorway and see how long that gap lasts

If someone is tailgating you, increase your distance to the car in front of you.

855244 2010-02-05 22:02:00 And if I see a murder or rape do the same? speeders are killers.

So does that mean Police Fire Ambulance are killers because they speed don't they ?
Or are you trying to say that dangerous and reckless drivers are killers ?
And these people can kill below the speed limit.
And then there is Alcohol and drugs as well.

Reversing on the motorway is frowned upon.

So are idiots that play games on the roads, you don't have to speed to be a rubbish driver.

855248 2010-02-06 00:28:00 I suppose it will take a while but the anti speeding message might sink in.
Just some people area little thick message not been received. Things lot better now on Auckland motorways than 15 years ago. Then if you were doing 100kph in fast lane you would have people getting real agitated. Now if you go much over 106 you will get a ticket.

855249 2010-02-06 00:30:00 But you know that "safe" guy in his Toyota Corolla that never exceeds 100 even in a passing lane will continue to think he is a safe driver as long as he never looks in his rear vision mirror to consider others, I take it your one of those lol.

No, I'm the guy that pulls over to let you past, I'm also the guy who watched his mirrors, saw the reckless idiot coming up from behind and slows down to let you in at the end of your dangerous passing manoeuvre.

I'm the guy that also checks his rear vision mirror to make sure the oncoming idiot didn't crash because somebody has to do first-aid until the ambulance arrives and I carry a kit. I'm the one that lets you merge in heavy traffic, even though you've driven up the left-turn only lane to get to the head of the queue, so that you don't hold up all the considerate drivers who simply want to turn left.

I'm also the guy who takes your number and vehicle description if I see some particularly outrageous act of motorised stupidity, or if I think you might be under the influence of drink or drugs, and phones it in to the police (hands free) in the faint hope you might get caught before you kill somebody or an act of retaliatory road rage kills you. In extreme cases I'll follow you if possible to do so safely to make sure they find you.

When I was in my late teens and still stupid, somebody stopped me late one night because they thought I wasn't fit to drive (they were right too) then they drove me and my car home to my flat and put me to bed. I woke in the morning with my car locked in the driveway, keys and wallet beside the bed, and a thumping hangover. I'd return that favour any time the opportunity presents itself, and have done from parties but left their car there of course.

I've been no angel on the road, I travelled a lot for business and had a very effective radar detector so driving home from Taupo to Auckland at warp speed in time for dinner was normal practice, but I changed my behaviour because of the risk to myself and others. When you grow up, have kids and start caring about others, you might surprise yourself by changing your behaviour too.

If you say you are grown up and think your speeding is safe because you are a good driver or have a good car, I've got news for you, you're neither.

855250 2010-02-06 00:36:00 I got a speed camera fine for being 4 kM/h in a 50 km/h area - $60.

The TED mentioned above is a factor (Time exposed to danger)
My car is limited at 240 km/h, so a quick flick and you ate passed and back in lane in 3 or 4 seconds (or less). As 0-100 is 6.6 seconds, 95-120 is very swift. (Mercedes SLK supercharged)
Depends if radar is on continuously in police car or manual. You should beet manual. Assume you have a good radar detector?

lol get over yourself, for a start im 38 with kids . If you read back (assuming you know how), I have never said I am a speeder .

I said the ONE area where moderate speeding is actually desirable is a passing lane on a two lane road . Its far safer to moderately speed and allow others behind you who are also try to pass the slow traffic to get past without having to do some sort of crunch merge at the end of the passing lane . .

You can sit on 100 in that passing lane if you desire FOLLOW THE LETTER OF THE LAW lol, ill be considerate and use my brain .

Is the Law wrong with a 100 limit in those passing lanes YES, it need to be increased to 120 or reduce the slow lane to 80 take your pick .
