855647 2010-02-05 20:48:00 Just a reminder .

Patriotism is the willingness to kill and be killed for trivial reasons .
Bertrand Russell (1872 - 1970)
"My country, right or wrong," is a thing that no patriot would think of saying except in a desperate case . It is like saying, "My mother, drunk or sober . "

George Bernard Shaw (1856 - 1950)
You'll never have a quiet world till you knock the patriotism out of the human race .
George Bernard Shaw (1856 - 1950), "Misalliance"
Patriotism is often an arbitrary veneration of real estate above principles .
George Jean Nathan (1882 - 1958)
Don't be a fool and die for your country . Let the other sonofabitch die for his .
George S . Patton (1885 - 1945), (attributed)

How beautiful is death, when earn'd by virtue!
Who would not be that youth? What pity is it
That we can die but once to serve our country!
Joseph Addison (1672 - 1719), "Cato", Act 4, Scene 4, 1713

When a whole nation is roaring Patriotism at the top of its voice, I am fain to explore the cleanness of its hands and purity of its heart .
Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882), Journals, 1824
Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel .
Samuel Johnson (1709 - 1784), quoted in Boswell's Life of Johnson
When I am abroad, I always make it a rule never to criticize or attack the government of my own country . I make up for lost time when I come home .
Sir Winston Churchill (1874 - 1965)
The flag is the embodiment, not of sentiment, but of history .
Woodrow Wilson (1856 - 1924)

For that I'm glad, pleonasms on the chest can lead to bad complications .

It is also a sure indication or marker of what social class one was born into, and what sort of school one went to . In my case the depths of Brum and Black Country working class :D

There are two languages I will recognize spoken in New Zealand - English and Maori. ...
[/rant]

I have to disagree with your above views. NZ is a multi-racial society and every citizen/resident has the right to speak any language he/she wishes - BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS. No doubt about it, English and Maori (how many people speak fluent Maori , including the Maoris?) are the 'official' languages but that doesn't mean that other races are not allow to speak their own languages. I (maybe the whole world) will be very surprised if there is such a law in NZ saying that ONLY English and Maori are allowed to be used in this country. If that is the case, probably, NZ will be the ONLY country in the world to have such a law in the history of human mankind. Can you name me one country in this world (not other planets from the universe) that doesn't allow its people to speak their own language? Seriously, I would like to learn something new today to broaden my general knowledge, thank you.

Do have a broad mind and heart to accept and learn other languages/cultures so that others can accept us. Don't be a frog in the well.

I have no problem with people in NZ speaking language other than English or Maori. In fact, I am interested to learn their language if given the opportunity. Just for your info, I speak 5 languages including English. :D

855654 2010-02-05 23:06:00 So Cato wants to expel the Maori because they allude to their ancient homeland of Hawaiki where they all wish to go when dead, we can't buy non NZ cars, oh wait there wouldn't be any. How about horses not they are an import, play rugby afraid not invented in Rugby England. Bob Doe will have to give up Asian food, Metla will have to get rid of his Harley it's just not Kiwi. Surfer Joe will have to stop surfing as that's a Polynesian sport.

So in NEW Zealand what does that leave us in the world according to Cato living in mud huts, can't buy anything money was imported from the Middle East/ Europe can't barter fro the same reasons but we can chase each other then beat each other up with lumps of greenstone and bits of carved dead tree

When exactly did I say or imply any of those??
Please show me. I said something else and this is being made into something totally different...

I dunnow - I see it as an (ill) logical extension drawing to a fairly correct yet debatable conclusion .

Besides - the Polynesian sport? The US OWNS Hawaii - so by extension (again) it is now a US-Sport 1st class!
