No need to replace it, they don't wear out or lose efficiency, they either work or they don't. If it is working, leave it alone.

Why do you say no need to replace it, how do you know it is working correctly.
They have capacitors and resistors which can change in value over time.
What signs of a complete failure would you expect to get when some people have ADSL running fine without any filters on phones at all although they usually get some noise on the phone.

Faulty filters can cause dropouts or poor speeds amongst other things and there is not usually an easily identified indication of a complete filter failure unless the modem can't get sync all of a sudden.
But as mentioned some people can get sync on the modem without any filters fitted so for the sake of a few dollars it is worth having a spare filter to try which will quickly confirm if it is a filter problem.

For the average consumer, it is near-on impossible to test and prove emphatically that a DSL line filter is faulty. However, there are a number of telltale signs that could point to a faulty DSL or ADSL filter. Some symptoms include,

* Poor broadband internet access speeds
* Poor broadband internet access reliability (i.e. Unexplained drop-outs and reconnects)
* Intermittent crackling or static on the telephone connected to the DSL line filter
* Diminished media streaming or download quality due to data packet loss
