Our almost 2 year old son can pull on their tales and stuff but they don't care.
If they don't like it they just walk away. And they had never been around small kids until our son came along.

Indeed. That is how most of these bite stories come about. ALL dogs have their primal instinct. All dogs are dangerous. Even Chiuauas. Especially Chiuauas!

Yep, the lovable, friendly, photogenic labrador:

Quote from a recent news article

www.stuff.co.nz

A two-year study has been carried out across 13 North Island district councils, covering the greater Waikato and Bay of Plenty, into dog attacks. Labradors were the second-most featured breed.

Of 311 reported attacks since December 2007, the Labrador was responsible for 31, eight less than the pitbull. Bull terriers, Staffordshire bull terriers and German Shepherds rounded out the top five.

As Prefect put it: "Don't get too cocky one of the hounds might have a bad fur day and your kids could get chomped". Just make sure your kid knows what to pull and what not to! :annoyed:

855434 2010-02-05 03:10:00 Isn't it time to ban dogs as pets?

An animal is always an animal, whether it's a dog, cat, pig, or cow. They are all animals, even God can't change it.

855435 2010-02-05 03:23:00 If the dogs do ever do anything to my son then I would say he probably deserved it.
When I was younger our family had couple of labs and they also were great with my younger sister.
She used to climb all over them, pull ears and tails etc but they would just lie there and take it.
They loved the attention I think.
One of them used to follow my sister around all the time probably making sure she was safe.
Both of those labs are dead now :(

If the dogs are brought up right from a puppy and trained then there should be no reason why they would attack their own owners/family. Strangers are another story though.

Edit: On a side note, anyone seen the new movie Hachiko?

855436 2010-02-05 04:08:00 You know there is a such a thing as karma when a dog bites the owner.
My cat will give me a "thats enough " scratch when I tease her.

Some people who tease deserve all they get.

855439 2010-02-05 07:23:00 Damn cats one caused me to exit my cycle at 60kph some years ago while training for a race in the UK. The stupid cat decided that the hedge it was hiding in looking to kill some wildlife was too tame and that trying to run through my front wheel would be more fun. I ended up in A&E the cat ended up being buried. I have never liked cats since. Dogs are so much nicer and don't do that sort of stupid thing gary67 (56)
