If one of these clowns is exceeding the speed limit and comes up behind me I am not going to make it easy for him to pass. If he tailgates I slam on the brakes if he wants to overtake he aint having any of my road up to the centreline.

Yea its often these types of open road games that cause deaths, its far safer to let a speeder past. You are not going to feel great if you contribute to a fatal crash by deliberately holding a already impatient person up, and they do something stupid.

855223 2010-02-04 23:15:00 if someone is up my ass on the open road il just let them past, rather than frustrating them into doin something stupid. Its suprising how much traffic can back up when you have one car doing 95 in front of you hueybot3000 (3646)
855224 2010-02-05 01:50:00 Speeders and tailgaters need to be taught a lesson if people act like a wimps and let them go they expect that as the norm.
Speed kills the faster the speed the bigger the mess.

855225 2010-02-05 02:11:00 4 lane road. 2 lanes in each direction.

if i am in one lane and i want to change into the other lane but i can't because the car won't let me in, can i legally break the speed limit to pass that car and get in front of him? will i still get a speeding ticket?

The speed limit is called a limit for a reason which may escape you. Unless you are one of the many who have an exemption then you have no defence against a charge of exceeding the posted limit. Two lanes each way means nothing as there are roads that qualify but have a posted limit of less than 100 KMH.

To answer the other question I would say that you will only get a speeding ticket if you are detected being over the limit.

Another of your hypothetical questions?

855226 2010-02-05 02:15:00 I agree sweep the speed limit is 60 mph exceed it expect a fine etc. Never in my life been worried about slow vehicles like trucks holding me up will get past them soon or later wont make any difference to trip time. If its busy get past that slow stock truck only going to behind a nana in Morris Marina doing 50 MPH prefect (6291)
855227 2010-02-05 02:39:00 There are most definitely very valid places to speed. All over the country there are a number of two lane passing lanes on the state highway (highway my ass :P). People using these lanes doing 100Kmph to pass vehicles doing 90 are a REAL danger. Basically you often get stuck having to do a tight merge at the end of the passing lanes with the slower vehicles that by nature bunch up, all because the person in front was to scared to exceed 100 and took forever.

Whenever I am in front about to pass the slower traffic, I always make sure I am considerate and pass quickly and safely and usually sit on about 120 until pass then indicate back and slow to 100, never had a cop in either direction pull me up for it which is sensible.

855228 2010-02-05 02:51:00 Unfortunately the LAW is not sensible as such.
I might add I have been done for speeding as well so I'm not perfect either.
Nor am I prefect either for that matter.

It is only a matter of time and you will get pinged, the tolerance for speeds over 100kmh is at best 10% and if the cop is feeling grumpy or you are at the end of a passing lane and doing a 'tight merge' you'll get done for passing with insufficient clear road to complete the manoeuvre safely. You should be on the left well before the bunch-up happens.

Have you ever considered what you would do if you met a fellow idiot coming the other way and doing a 'tight merge at 120kph like you?? That is a 240kph coming together and you won't be writing a cheerful account of your misdemeanour's after that. I can tell you from personal and rather slower experience, it hurts like hell, goes on hurting for years and if you survive, you'll still be feeling the effects many decades later.

And as for your comment about airbags, I daren't write what I think about that. What about the innocent individual or family that you might hit? If your airbag did save you, they might not be so fortunate as to have airbags, so how would you feel seeing the bodies of parents and/or children being cut from their car.

Sounds like you got your license off the back of a cornflake packet.

Shame on you.

I basically agree, the only problem is passing lanes are different lengths, you have no idea if you have 400 meters or 1000 meters unless you know the road. At the end of the day its others bad driving that will get me pinged eventually. But you know that "safe" guy in his Toyota Corolla that never exceeds 100 even in a passing lane will continue to think he is a safe driver as long as he never looks in his rear vision mirror to consider others, I take it your one of those lol.

855231 2010-02-05 07:56:00 Passing lanes have signs telling you when they end, usually 200 metres.... Jester (13)
