if i am in one lane and i want to change into the other lane but i can't because the car won't let me in, can i legally break the speed limit to pass that car and get in front of him? will i still get a speeding ticket?

855213 2010-02-04 04:17:00 If the other car is at or over the limit in place probably yes, I know some who got a ticket for 112kph overtaking a vehicle doing 95, then others have been let go.

Depends on the mood of the officer I suppose, then speed cameras are another thing.

855214 2010-02-04 04:22:00 No. The limit, unless an exempted vehicle on lawful business, is 100. Scouse (83)
855215 2010-02-04 05:15:00 I was reliably informed that an appeal to the Ministry will give you about a one in ten chance of getting off, if you have a good excuse. They have a quota, believe it or not, of accepting one out of ten excuses.

But here's a good one - my brother was clocked doing 160 in a 100 zone. He was pulled over (actually he could easily have outrun the cop, but chose to stop - the cop tagged him going in the opposite direction). Anyway - he was fined on the spot 400 bucks. He later got a letter from the Ministry saying his fine was dismissed - the cop was supposed to have fined him 600 and because of that error he got off scott free!

Or you could slow down and get in behind the other car.
Yes you can get a ticket for overtaking if you exceed the speed limit
(If it's on a two lane road your T.E.D is greatly increased)

855217 2010-02-04 19:25:00 I'd say to slow down and merge, as wmoore says.

Greg, your brother would have lost his licence on the side of the road (40 over the limit is instant loss of licence). The story sounds unusual in this day and age .. unless of course it was back inthe days of a separate MoT?

855218 2010-02-04 19:56:00 100kph is only a rough guide, a recommended speed. There is no problem going way over as long as your car is fitted with airbags its perfectly safe! Battleneter2 (9361)
855219 2010-02-04 20:01:00 Yes and traffic lights are just mere indications.
Never really worked out why some clowns are willing to risk their lives to overtake and just get caught behind the next car.
If one of these clowns is exceeding the speed limit and comes up behind me I am not going to make it easy for him to pass. If he tailgates I slam on the brakes if he wants to overtake he aint having any of my road up to the centreline.

Idiotic comment. That's why we have crashes. Bull-headedness. Great.
