Long time reader, first time poster. I have checked the forums already but my keyword search is not bringing up the topic I need. This is a really ignorant question (blush) and I think I know the answer but just want to check with the more astute out there: when your computer/laptop is shut down (not hibernating), and you have scheduled your antivirus to run scans at certain times, will they still run or do I need to leave my computer in hibernate mode?

Also is there anyway for someone to hack or infect my computer when it is shut down? (But modem still on).

Thanks

And no to the 2nd question. BUT, some routers can get infected, you have to reset it, if it gets hit, to fix it

1135873 2010-09-10 02:19:00 Yeah it won't scan when "hibernating" either, computer has to be on to do anything. Deimos (5715)

No.

No.

It should be on anyway so that it first can update to the latest definitions first, then scan.

And the same for your antispyware - although most of the free ones haven't got auto scanning built in.
