1135826 2010-09-09 11:16:00 I've dragged an old 250GB ext USB drive out and it is so slow to transfer data that it must be USB1 but I got to thinking, how do you tell for sure whether a drive is 1 or 2? Just can't think where you would look for that info.

The drive eject prog calls it a "USB to IDE Bridge" so this may be a clue?

BTW it is a generic enclosure so brand/model isn't going to help.

1135827 2010-09-09 11:20:00 what speed is it transferring at? GameJunkie (72)
1135828 2010-09-09 12:08:00 Mmmm, guess it has to be USB2 seeing as USB1 is only 12Mbps! (Forgot how drastic USB1 was). Just seemed much slower than my new 1TB drive.

Just checked its tfr time at 8 min for a 16.5GB file or 275Mbps.

So, looks like USB2 on a slower older 250GB disk.

1135829 2010-09-09 12:25:00 Possibly a 5400 rpm hard drive 2.5" is the enclosure powered with A/C or just the USB cable attached. Snorkbox (15764)
1135830 2010-09-09 22:01:00 No, it is a 7200 3.5" drive.

Basically, I tried to copy image files from my primary 1TB USB drive to this old drive to give me a backup of my backups for off-site storage and the copy really wasn't going anywhere. So, USB to USB of large files doesn't seem like a good idea!

I'll just go another route and maybe create images straight to the old drive.
