1135558 2010-09-08 05:52:00 Can anyone tell me whether cooling fans for lappy's are "universal" or does every make and model have a different size ??

Looking to replace one in a Toshiba M801 but it will be a first ... like a virgin ...

Gotta love Madonna !!

1135559 2010-09-08 05:55:00

They are all different. :(

Opening the beast up , cleaning out the dust and lubing the fan bearings does wonders though. (Just like it does on a virgin, cept replace the ky for WD40.) :D

EMPR would be the place to look for Tosh parts, fans are normally like $20. If you give me the exact model I can look it up for you.

1135561 2010-09-08 06:20:00 What's wrong with it? might just need some fresh grease... Agent_24 (57)
1135562 2010-09-08 06:47:00 Nup .... either the fan's shagged or the sensor is because it's not working at all. Temp on the CPU has been up to 68C ... could just about fry eggs on the keyboard.

AWwww Thomo ... Thanks for the info

1135564 2010-09-08 06:52:00 I'd test the fan on a separate supply just to be sure, the motherboard might be faulty but the fan fine. Agent_24 (57)
1135565 2010-09-08 09:55:00 Open the notebook up and whack a multimeter on the pins of the fan socket while the notebook's running - you should see some movement when the temp is anything over 50, and generally the fan should spin up when the notebook is first powered on too. wratterus (105)
