1135667 2010-09-10 00:28:00 okay , looks like i will avoid the place i was looking for a computer at , and choose from somewhere people here have suggested marlinz (1905)
1135668 2010-09-10 00:29:00 So ask them what brands via Email then. No use asking our collective opinion unless we know what brands. We would like to ensure we are comparing Apples with Apples as opposed to Lemons if you see my point. Snorkbox (15764)

+1 They are the best for a full system.

1135672 2010-09-10 02:30:00 Brand
Brand
Brand
Brand

That's what matters.
And the 400w PSU, not bundled with the case I hope?

I would go with
Gigabyte or ASUS motherboard
Giagbyte or ASUS Graphics
Corsair PSU
Western Digital or Seagate HDD
Pioneer, ASUS or Sony DVDRW

Brands for each part will depend on the stock we have. At the moment, MSI for motherboard, Galaxy for Video Card, Seagate for HDD and PQI for Ram.

1135673 2010-09-10 03:00:00 So basically they take the cheapest they can get to build the system.
Give them a pass is my advice.

That 5770 needs to be swapped for a GTX460 768Mb...doesnt have as much memory but same price and its all over the 5770

1135675 2010-09-10 03:34:00 So far i am swaying towards this system,

Intel Core i5 2.66Ghz 8Mb LGA1156 CPU
Intel H55 Chipset 1156
4GB DDR3 RAM
Nvidia GT240 1GB
Onboard 5.1 Channel HD Audio
Onboard 10/100MB LAN
500GB SATAII HDD
22X DVD Writer
400W PSU
Black Full ATX Case

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Prem 32bit

total cost $999

what do you guys reckon ?

I would strongly advise you to try and buy nothing lower than a HD5770 GPU or a GTX 460 as above.

Looking at what you use your PC for and being on a tight budget you are far better off tradeing CPU for GPU grunt.

A cheaper AMD PII (and mobo) with say a X4 955 and a HD5770 will give you better performance in games like Wow over a I5 and that dog of a card Nvidia GT240 1GB.

A GT240 is 1280x1024 card at best (does over clock fairly well but meh), if this card was $50 it would be $50 worth of disappointment.

1135676 2010-09-10 05:14:00 MSI for motherboard, Galaxy for Video Card, and PQI for Ram.

Avoid.
Look, you want a decent system? That will perform well?
And have peace of mind should anything go wrong? And reliabilty?
Then go to Computer Lounge - we don't recommend them for the hell of it - they have a reputation for excellent after sales service, plus they know whats good and what isn't for gaming.

Too many of these places build on price and couldn't vare less. I have even met a few who had no idea at all, what is a good performing GPU and what isn't.
