857841	2010-02-13 03:54:00	A friends of my wife did the same. $2000 on tick from Harvey Norman because her one was "no longer any good, froze and was really slow". I found out about it when her son configured the administrator account and couldn't remember the password. It locked her out completely, nothing worked. Then I found out she bought and paid extra $$$$ for Norton, PLUS paid for them to install it, install Microsoft Office and set up her email, all added to the finance deal (shudder). It's a "really good one though". So, I reloaded the original software, then had to re-install Norton (which grated big time but the poor thing had paid for it), Office and set up email ... dial up Kiwi Online. After a few hours she was back where she started, this time I set up the user accounts! Went to her place and connected online, and realised how slow dial up really is. She spoke to my wife last week and said the PC is running really slow and not getting her emails and it must have been something I did!! I went there and it was so clogged with rubbish and alerts, Norton was trying to download stuff and update and it was generally a mess. You can't protect your PC against the user I guess ... after a clean up guess what, it runs sweet again lol. Anyhow, I did score her old PC. Reformatted, installed Ubuntu , and it's a perfect file server that has run nonstop for a few weeks now :) The only problem is that now I will be an on call non paid support tech, usually after work and on weekends. :(	Jester (13)
