857751 2010-02-13 02:00:00 If the price is OK, go for Sony, but a friend of mine says Panasonic is at the moment the brand to get for LCDs

I looked at both panasonic and SOny. The sony was $599 so it won.

I have an aversion to Samsung, perhaps unreasonably, based on the failure rate of their drives.
And how long friends Samsung Plasma didn't last.

857752 2010-02-13 05:33:00 Panasonic are orientated towards Plasma panels, that is where they invest their money. If you want plasma go for Panasonic.

LCD, well samsung actually some components (such as screens) found in many other manufactures panels such as Sony

Just something to consider, As for reliability I have seen break downs from all makers, sony has been going through a bad spell lately, this comes from our Sony account manager.

The sony KLV40S550A should be cheap at any store, Great buying, full HD Panel, ( and a nice TV) Sony have had big price drops as they were trailing with their sales in the last 6 months.

The choice is yours loook at them all and pick the best looking

857753 2010-02-13 06:41:00 Which is he most reliable TV brand in your experience? Panasonic, Sony or Samsung?

I'm looking to buy an LCD TV. I don't want something that is going to be giving heaps of trouble!

I've got a sony 32 incher and it is pretty good. $780, full HD, DLNA and freeview built in. Friends purchased a Samsung LED 40 incher for about 4-5k,and apart being slightly bigger, the picture quality isn't much better. I think sonys qaulity is still better than samsung. Panasonic are OK, however they don't put as much care into their design, but their reliability is up there, perhaps even better than sony.

857754 2010-02-13 07:04:00 My local tv service man says Panasonic, both plasma and LCD, is the brand he sees the least, and that Sony used to be the best but their quality had gone down a bit in the last couple of years. tutaenui (1724)
857755 2010-02-13 08:04:00 Panasonic, Sony and Sanyo according to Consumer PPp (9511)
857756 2010-02-13 08:22:00 With the quality of programs presented, and the quantity of the ads, some other consderations for a TV should be :
1/. A large hair-trigger off button.
2/. A remote with most buttons being a combined blank & mute function.
3/. A wire mesh screen surrounding the set on all sides and the top, capable of deflecting domestic missiles possessed of considerable kinetic energy.
4/. Auto-hibernate during advertising that delivers an audible click in the studio. This should save sufficient electrical energy to enable us to close the Waikato river for 8 months of the year when bicycle tours could be run up and down the river bed. The water saved will also enable Taupo residents to go back to making as many iceblocks as they wish and having two showers a day..

Panasonic, Sony and Sanyo according to Consumer

Sanyo . . . Are they serious? Sanyo for TVs, wouldn't touch them .

I have lost a lot of faith in what "consumer mag" recommends, I have seen some real lemons at the top of their lists, and good ones at the bottom . :groan:

Lets not forget they have rated Nortons as one of the best AV programs out there . :groan:

I would like to see the consumer magazine rated, for me, it wouldn't be high . ;)

857758 2010-02-13 09:06:00 Agreed with Consumer mag comments, "EOL" got rated best ISP...never heard of them and they are only based in the Bay of Plenty. I think first ISP I had heard of on that list was half way down and it was Orcon.

IIRC Sanyo is a warehouse brand (for tvs)

Panasonic now owns Sanyo. So maybe things will change.
$9.4bn US to buy Sanyo.
