| 856923 | 2010-02-10 06:08:00 | :illogical well its nice to be remembered, but sometimes its not what it cost, just the point of saying its valentines lets be together is nice???? i think its more important to think of ya partner, or hubby, at this stage, not what the stinker didnt get me for a present . . . . . . sometimes just a phone call, or a hand picked flower or a hag can be nicer than a present . but thats just me, i have no probs as i dont have a partner to buy anything for . and im not expecting anything to accidently turn up here or at work . . . . . . . im happy as i am . but yeah its over commercialised big time . and to me that day will always be remembered for another reason . . . . . . as its my mums birthday . . . . . . . we celebrate for a better reason i guess . . . . :D beetle :p |

I agree with that, I'm just saying like what you said, if what they care most about is what the other person got them . . . well . . . |

Do you think that you need a specific day to tell the love of your life that you think they are special on just one day of the year? or Do you think that it is just a load of American rubbish that the retailers of greeting cards, chocolate and roses have decided to adopt just to sell their wares at inflated prices? Personally, I believe that neither my spouse nor I need to have anything to do this questionable practice. I dont believe that it is a nice thing to do to show how much you love that special person in your life. If you have any decent sort of relationship, the love of your life should know that already, as you tell them how great they are on a regular basis not just once a year. It is just another ploy by retailers to relieve you of your hard earned money. + 1 |

| 856928 | 2010-02-10 07:09:00 | I would never send flowers to a hag. I don't have to give SWMBO flowers or anything else this Sunday, she would probably beat me if I did | gary67 (56) | ||

| 856930 | 2010-02-10 07:52:00 | What is your opinion of Valentines Day? just another day to dig into your pockets a little deeper and see how much to spend just cos she has been talking about it non-stop with her friends. and than she is upset cos you didnt dig deep enough from last year. or in my case almost everything i do is upsetting her in some way.. so its valentines day for me almost everyday :thumbs: |

There is no harm in a dedicated day to celebrate love and partnership, Participation is voluntary, and their are no constraints placed of individuals celebrating it all year long if they so wish. Plus, It gives a young man an opportunity to make a move. You're right. It is not the fault of Valentine's day but many feel obligated by peer pressure so participation is not necessarily voluntary. Many feel that it is something they need to do to show their love. And if the young man needs the opportunity of Valentine's day to make a move then he's going to be very lonely if he only has one opportunity a year. What a ridiculous thing to say. :waughh: |
