2010-09-10 09:05:00 | SWMBO has purchased (awhile ago) an HP computer. Details are as follows: HP CQ3120AN AMD Athlon II Processor 2.7ghz 2GB Ram Windows 7 64 Windows Home Premium Every time that she does a Windows Update, she's unable to connect to the internet. I've managed to solve it a few times by doing a system restore to the time before she updated, but it's now making her mad that I have to do this every time. Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening and a way to solve? Thanks in advance.

2010-09-10 09:14:00 | Post a hijackthis log, we'll see whats in it. What firewall is installed?? And what AV program is installed? | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2010-09-10 09:17:00 | Sorry, I'm not at her computer so can't do a HJT log right now. Was hoping it would be a simple fix. I've installed MSE for the AV and I would assume it would be using the Windows Firewall. | nataS (13578) | |
2010-09-10 09:18:00 | Well it maybe infected with something, why the net stops. Thats why a HJT log may help | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2010-09-10 09:19:00 | Ok, thanks Speedy. I'll go round there tomorrow and run one and post it up. | nataS (13578) | |

2010-09-10 09:56:00 | Its something to do with an update thats coming in -- If system restore is run, it will remove the installed updates and it works again, if it were an infection of some kind you would expect it to not work at all. Suggestion - run a manual update of Windows, expand out/show what updates are going to be downloaded, take a screen shot and post back here whats going to be installed, then cancel out of the update. Lets see whats actually going to throw a spanner in the works. Edited: Been doing some reading, and others have had the same problem the fix was - go into the windows firewall, on the left, advanced, then inbound Rules locate the line Shown here (www.imagef1.net.nz), after the updates, make sure it is still enabled, if not then enable it - some updates appear to have turned it off, killing the internet.

2010-09-10 11:11:00 | Thanks Wainui, I'll give that a try tomorrow first, then try the HJT log. Thanks for your help as well Speedy.

2010-09-10 11:36:00 | There is a "hit and miss" way of doing it as well. Run the manual update, when it shows whats available, untick them all, then tick the top one, download it,reboot, see if the internet stops -- keep doing one at a time till it stops connecting - theres the problem. I had "almost similar" thing happen yesterday -- W7 Home Pre X64, Fresh install -three updates needed to be downloaded separately other wise the rest wouldn't come through, once those first 3 came through the rest flew down. Note: Only ever had problems with W7 X64, X86 never a problem.

| 1136093 | 2010-09-11 01:49:00 | Wainui - I tried your fix and it remains on, even after downloading the updates one by one.
