858938 2010-02-16 01:46:00 The day the sun stood still. Take the time to read it all. I’m certain you will find it interesting.

Space scientists were checking the position of the sun, moon and planets out in space in preparation for moon shots and satellite launchings. They need to know where they will be 100 and 1000 years from now so they won’t collide with something later in their orbits. They have to plan the orbit for the life of the satellite and where the planets will be so when a satellite is launched it will not bump into anything.

Back in the early seventies something quite astounding happened to the space scientists at Green Belt, Maryland in America. During some of their computerised computations over the centuries the computer came to a halt, signalling there was something wrong. The IBM computer was not at fault, neither it seemed was the programme and yet they found that there was a day missing in space in the elapsed time.

While trying to work out the reason for the anomaly one worker recalled his youth at Sunday School where they talked about the sun standing still. As they had no other answer they checked out Joshua 10.13. It said, “Fear them not. I have delivered them into thy hand. There shall not a man of them stand before thee.”

“Joshua was concerned because he was surrounded by the enemy, and if darkness fell they could overpower him. So Joshua asked the Lord to make the sun stand still.”

“The sun stood still and the moon stayed and hastened not to go down about a whole day.”

The scientists realised they had found their missing day but when they rechecked they found the time was not close enough. The elapsed time that was missing in Joshua’s time was 23 hours and 20 minutes – not a whole day. Then they remembered the Bible said, “ – about a whole day.”

But that did not help because if you cannot account for 40 minutes you will have trouble 10,000 years from now. Forty minutes had to be found as it multiplies many times over, in orbits.

The same fellow came to the rescue again and told the scientists that the Bible spoke of a time when the sun went backward. When they consulted 2 Kings 20.10 they read that Hezekia, on his deathbed, was visited by the prophet Isaiah, who told him he was not going to die. Hezekia did not believe him and asked for a sign as proof. Isaiah asked, “Do you want the sun to go ahead 10 degrees?” Hezekia replied, “It is nothing for the sun to go ahead 10 degrees but let the shadow turn backward 10 degrees.” Isaiah spoke to the Lord and the Lord brought the shadow 10 degrees backward.

Ten degrees is exactly 40 minutes. So 23 hours and 20 minutes in Joshua, plus 40 minutes in 2 Kings makes the 24 hours that space travellers now had to allow for as the missing day in the universe.

As is obvious from this story, religion and science are not opposites from which a choice must be made. These cataclysmic events were faithfully recorded and the scientific computer findings have highlighted and borne out the Biblical record.

A most interesting story.

858941 2010-02-16 02:19:00 This sort of rubbish is written by people with no knowledge of physics or orbital mechanics.

Think about it carefully for a bit...........

858942 2010-02-16 02:48:00 This sort of rubbish is written by people with no knowledge of physics or orbital mechanics .

Think about it carefully for a bit . . . . . . . . . . .

And of course, being a pc fix it person, you'd know all about physics and orbital mechanics, eh?

But then you rarely have a good word to say about anything, do you?

I simply posted it because it was, as Gobe1 said, a good yarn . Just accept it for what it is - an interesting story .

Religious fantasy has no place in a tech forum.

858946 2010-02-16 05:38:00 I don't consider any lies spread by the church in order to fool people to be a good yarn.

Or for that matter people that spread the lies, or try and justify them.

And as for satellites bumping into planets and moons in 1000 years time?, I doubt the planets will notice.
