2010-02-14 20:55:00 | Has anyone used the stuff from a spray can that defrosts ice on a refrigerator freezer? Any good? Where to buy? And is there anyway to prevent or hinder the build up of ice? ~ Other than never opening the freezer door or  not turning the fridge on, or buying a new fridge that has anti-frost built in.

Much cheaper. ;) Glycerine on a paper towel rubbed over the surface of the freezer (once it's clean) won't prevent ice build-up, but will make it much easier to get the ice off next time. EDIT: just don't get it confused with the "nitro" variant :D |

2010-02-14 21:23:00 | I use to blast with a hair dryer with care. I think isopropyl alcohol sprayed on ice will melt it (latent heat effect). Maybe the chemist might have some or chemical supplier/air con suppliers (I recall at work they used a spray when the coils iced up). | kahawai chaser (3545) | |

2010-02-14 23:32:00 | I use to blast with a hair dryer with care. I do that. A a blunt knife. Heat then pull, it pretty much comes off in a big lumpy sheet. The only way to prevent ice is to buy a frost free one. But it takes me about 10 minutes to do the fridge freezer and 20 minutes to do the main one. Not a major every 7 to 9 months or thereabouts.

2010-02-15 09:14:00 | I used a 2 pound club hammer & a chisel to get my freezer clear at work. Put the chisel through the side lol. Filled the hole with silicone, works a treat. I think the fridge freezer's older than me | Phil B (648) | |
