858399 2010-02-14 20:25:00 Only days after declaring she was finished with politics, the former One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has revealed plans to sell her Queensland property and resettle in Britain, potentially for good.

The Poms are welcome to her

''I'm going to be away indefinitely. It's pretty much goodbye forever,'' she told Woman's Bray magazine in an interview, published today.

To quote a famous PM of ours, to raise the IQ of both nations?

But:

The 55-year-old said she would spend a few months in the South Island of New Zealand and eventually relocate to Britain.

South Island PF1ers - you're beholden to make sure she gets on the plane out of here! :ban

858400 2010-02-14 20:56:00 Why?

So she doesn't encourage others to start a political party to focus on the needs of her own race?
You're right... that would be blatantly racist.
That would never happen in NZ......

Care to justify that statement?

858404 2010-02-14 21:37:00 Well the South Island seems to have a higher rate of racial tension than Auckland. bob_doe_nz (92)
858405 2010-02-14 22:24:00 Hmmm well I can't really comment on Christchurch, but I doubt there's much tension in Dunedin, as there's only approximately 37 people of non-European descent living here.

But seriously, there's very little mention of racial issues here - we have our share of crime etc, but on the whole it's still a very inclusive society. PCTek can comment on Southland if she chooses to; my experience of Invercargill is that there quite a few Maori living there, and it's all quite harmonious.

Would you like to cite some evidence of racial unrest here? :stare:

Hmm, perhaps I should have said smaller towns/cities instead. I do remember the TVNZ show Asia Down Under mentioned a while back some students who were attacked for no reason outside a dairy in I think it was Chch.

Then there was this article. (www.stuff.co.nz) Then again, when I was there for a few days, I never had any problems.

But you are correct in saying that you don't hear much about it. It's just that when you do, it seems to be blown out of proportion.

I think the diary attack was in Nelson? Yes, there is a small number of skinheads scattered around the South Island, but they're so few that they aren't even thought about. For a number of reasons, I truly think race isn't an issue here, probably because we're a small city, and pretty pragmatic people on the whole - we just get on with things. And our last two Mayors were/are Indian and Chinese, with Peter Chin especially being from a very well known, respected and old family with roots in the gold mining days. A family history of strong work ethics sits above people's perceptions of race in matters of importance.
