858007 2010-02-13 05:29:00 Not much has changed. When I was a schoolboy over 40 years ago cleaning up in a butcher's there were several old ladies who regularly asked for something for the cat.

The butcher gave them something reasonable as he knew they were eating it themselves.

858009 2010-02-13 06:02:00 You didn't get the dog 'cause you hadn't eaten up all your gravy beef. R2x1 (4628)
858010 2010-02-13 06:09:00 Although we were "poor", I was completely shocked when my mum dished up a stew one night (back in the '50s) and said it was beef. In fact it turned out that it was horsemeat! I went right off stews after that.

Being a girl who was in love with horses, I was shattered that people actually ate them!
