1136104 2010-09-11 02:32:00 Edited: only just saw the other reply---- When it loses the internet, run the Connection diagnostic that windows 7 has, its actually quite good, it will either fix the connection problem or give a report as to whats broken. to run it, right click on the Connection Icon in the task bar - run trouble shooter

Sorry, hadn't seen this. Yes, I have tried the diagnostic and it couldn't work it out for me either.

I'll try it again next time it happens.

I've updated the driver thorugh that site as well. Guess there is nothing we can do but wait until the next update and hope that it has stopped.

Thanks for all your help - you're both brilliant.

1136105 2010-09-11 02:34:00 You wont have to wait long. A few should be out Wed next week Speedy Gonzales (78)
1136106 2010-09-11 03:25:00 Just a thought --- next time it happens (if it does) open a Command prompt.

Click on Start, type in CMD, select it, then type in ping www. google.co.nz Press enter - if the internet is working you should get a reply, like this (www.imagef1.net.nz) - Seen it sometimes where the internet is working /Connecting, but the browsers wont. it its not working you should get a timed out with 100% loss.

Out of Interest, when its not connecting , does the connection Icon show as connected, or does it have a red X ?

Edited, when typing in the ping type in the actual address as normal, no spaces, had to put a space after the www other wise it created an link :)

1136107 2010-09-11 22:34:00 Would be a good idea, while in the command prompt, to type in ipconfig /all and hit enter. Post results here, particularly, IPv4 Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, DNS Servers. linw (53)

1136109 2010-09-17 22:02:00 Well, it's happened again although this time, it has only just started (or not started) this morning . The updates were installed fine . and the computer was being used after the installation of the updates . SWMBO turned on the computer this morning, and no net .

I tried the ping test and no dice .

Would be a good idea, while in the command prompt, to type in ipconfig /all and hit enter . Post results here, particularly, IPv4 Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, DNS Servers .

IPv4 - 169 . 254 . 230 . 143(preferred)
Subnet Mask - 255 . 255 . 0 . 0
Default Gateway is blank
DNS Servers - FEC0:0:0:FFFF::1%1
- FEC0:0:0:FFFF::2%1
- FEC0:0:0:FFFF::3%1

I got this over the phone this morning and it looks rather bizarre!

1136110 2010-09-17 22:11:00 IPv4 - 169.254.230.143(preferred)

Give it a manual ip (within the router's valid ip range).

Default Gateway is blank

Type in the router ip (the ip you type in to login into the router) for the gateway.

DNS Servers - FEC0:0:0:FFFF::1%1
- FEC0:0:0:FFFF::2%1
- FEC0:0:0:FFFF::3%1

Change the Primary / Sec DNS server ips to your ISP's DNS server ips.

1136111 2010-09-17 22:14:00 Thanks Speedy, but how exactly do I do this? How do I manually enter these? nataS (13578)
1136112 2010-09-17 22:18:00 Right mouse on the monitor on the taskbar whatever its called / bottom option. Change adapter settings. Double click / properties / tcp/ipv4. Change it to use the following ip address. Then find out what the valid ip range of the router is. Type in any ip between that range for the first ip address. It may put in a subnet mask ip, when you press tab. Then depending on who your ISP is, type in their Primary and Sec DNS server ip. Or just put in 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 which is Google's. Then OK. Then reboot then see if it sticks, and gets on the net Speedy Gonzales (78)
