1136589 2010-09-12 08:01:00 I agree maybe because we dont do it often enought Cheers Wayne WayneMiddy (14028)
1136590 2010-09-12 08:22:00 Mine was very easy to set up although I'm using a print server/switch and not plugging the printer into the Routers usb port. Only reason why is because the router is in a cupboard in the kitchen and the switch sits on my desk connecting 2 computers saves me from running a second network cable to the office gary67 (56)
1136591 2010-09-12 09:00:00 Basic networking of a networked printer is not that hard usually.

As long as you have the correct drivers installed, the printer has a static IP address AND you can ping the printer by its IP address, then its usually just a setting someplace.

it could be the firewall stopping it.

Edited; the following may sound a little confusing, but its really going blind on a forum, a LOT easier if in front of the PC/ printer etc.

Check this -- open the printer properties / Port tab What you should have ticked is the IP address / Standard TCP/IP Port. Open its configuration, see if the protocol is set to RAW / Port Number 9100 OR LPT. ----- what ever it is, write down the figures and change to the other - see if it works.

Also, after rereading the Manual, it says you have to use the Brother LPR port -- so make sure thats selected instead of the standard TCP/IP.

(personally I never use the brother networking software on the few I have set up over time - use the standard inbuilt on all PC's and its a lot less hassle)

I went to a local business a few years back on another matter ( non IT), they had the so called "expert" looking at it for two days, trying all sorts, reinstalling drivers, rebuilding the TCP/IP Stack on PC's.

In the end he told them it was a fault in the Printer - I asked if I could have a quick look if they wanted - I Wasn't their IT person at the time - I opened it up, set it from LPR to RAW and away it went --- expert at Bull Sh*t maybe. ;)

Yes i can ping the printer ip address changing the RAW to LPR did not make any differance i set the Queue Name to BRN_706C42 not sure if that what i am suppose to use, will change it back to RAW. BTW i am happy to use any networking software to get this going thanks for the help.Should i turn off the Bullguard firewall to see if that is the cause?
Cheers Wayne

1136593 2010-09-12 10:25:00 Personally - when ever I set up a Network, or attach a new network device I disable all protection, especially firewalls .

That way there is nothing blocking a connection (hopefully) - then once its working enable the protection, that way if it stops working you know what is causing the problem .

Out of Interest -- has the firewall ever thrown up a message asking for permission or saying it has blocked the printer connection (I've never used Bullguard so dont know what it will do/ Ask) .

Edited: Do you know if you are using the Brother Peer to peer software ? Number 6 ( . imagef1 . net . nz/files/Brother_LPR . jpg" target="_blank">www . imagef1 . net . nz) from the manual makes an "interesting" statement .
