858460 2010-02-15 13:30:00 Ahhh - the fridge plus blunt knife process. World famous on PF1 :D

Good time for doing a Southern defrost though, we only have to defrost the inside up here ;)

Teaspoon I think rather than a blunt knife.

Sorry about that but I just had to do it.
Maybe you had to be there.

858462 2010-02-17 19:38:00 Thanks for the replies. Cato and johcar came the closest to actually answering my question but it seems PF1ers have not seen adverts for the spray defroster. It may be in the home gadget catalog that is put into our mailbox from a local distributor. There is a spray can product made for cars and trucks to melt ice on windscreens that I have seen in the States, but probably not available here in NZ.

Regarding the other suggestions - I know about them and have tried some, but what I use is a combination of several pots of boiling hot water and a fan heater.

How about the CRC De-icer, available in a spray can? Excellent on car windows

The Russian airforce had problems in the far east on MiG 25 squadrons where the ground crew were drinking it with adverse results.

Thx. Might be worth a try, depending if there is a lingering smell that would taint food.
