| 1136779 | 2010-09-13 08:59:00 | Hi PressF1 I am in need of some sort of backup software, the catch is that it needs to be really simple since it will be my parents using it (still getting used to the start button mechanics) Ill be looking around for a solution too, but if anyone knows of such a program feel free to post it here. Cheers. Edit: also their tech guy at work hasn't provided a backup system either, and even though I have told them of the risk they still are not being particularly proactive about it. I would think that an automated system would be the best, and then once a week copy it manually and take the copy off base? any recommendations for software that would allow this (willing to pay licence fees up to ~$500) |

Question Re the work - do you want full images as well, or just backup of data/ important files ? If you want a full backup, I would suggest Active@disk Image (http://www.disk-image.net/), works with all OS's. if you do a search through the forum here I have recommend it several times and other members have used it. I have also have it installed in several of my customers Businesses - NEVER had it fail yet out of the many images I've made / recovered. and then once a week copy it manually and take the copy off base? While doing backups is good, once a week is not -- What happens if there is a fire/ Disaster in between times ? You should always have a copy of the backup, or the actual backup off site / In another building, or at least in a locked fire proof safe if it is on site. Think of a worst case scenario, and plan for that. |

With the money you are willing to spend buy two external drives. Set them up with the same drive letter and swap them over once a week. You won't need to touch the software once you have set it up. For disk images I like Easeus Todo Backup, also free. |

| 1136784 | 2010-09-13 13:30:00 | For home Karens Replicator will do incremental backups to internal or external drives and will run on a schedule. Obviously anything scheduled requires the PC and Drive(s) to be powered up at the time. I say this ONLY because some people find that the backup or updates are scheduled for 2:00 am by default and at that time they have shut down the PC etc. I'd do an image of C:\ first. I'd also take backups off site as well. Also Wainui has a good solution if you don't mind paying. |

It's a lot of money for home use. Buy external HD, or maybe additional HDD. And make scheduled backups with [edited], it costs $39, but worth it. My mom even got how to handle with it. It's a big deal =) |
