Myth kindly donated a 250GB Hard drive to another user on this forum and I volunteered to clone their existing harddrive to it and fit it, This was to give them substantially more harddrive space as the person in question is a keen photographer. I grabbed both hard-drives with the intention of doing the cloning on my PC and then returning later in the week and fitting them in the PC. While I was standing beside my wagon discussing the internal structure of hard-drives (as you do) and how fragile they can be,It fell out of the open end of the box, fell from about waist level,landed on its corner on the concrete. Entirely my fault, Just a stupid stupid move. Stupid stupid stupid. Stupid. Anyway, I went ahead and cloned the drive and fitted it, she gave a boatload of disc errors but eventually fired up and the PC is up and running, with an audible clacking sound that I have only ever heard come from drives that are damaged. I told them to give it a try and I'd buy them a new Hard-drive if it failed. 2 problems 1.Its going to fail, even if its still running at the moment (haven't asked, due to problem #2) 2.I have no money to buy a new hard-drive.Been trying to scrounge something together over the last couple of weeks, didn't happen. So, I need a healthy IDE Harddrive over 200GB in order to make this right, I can offer an ASUS 7800(GS or GT,have to fit it to find out) video card that I can offer as a swap, or partial swap or whatever. Other then that, I'm open to ideas.(and donations) |

Up for donation Alright, Hold onto it, I'll pay them a visit and see if their is a spare PCI slot to fit a SATA card and if the motherboard has native support for booting off an add-in card. | 859232 | 2010-02-16 10:45:00 | Some idiot not too far from here has cunningly bought an IDE drive (Either 250 or 320 GB, I think) that will not fit a SATA connector in spite of fluent, frequent and loud Anglo-Saxon expletives. If you coud send me an address by PM, maybe we could both avoid a bit of embarrassment? There could be bit of a delay, as I a all at sea currently, and a bit out f my depth. Normal transmission should be resumed by Friday(ish) if I get this damn boat fixed. PS, I won't tell anybody if you don't. |

I wouldn't have thought that would hurt it. They're supposed to stand 250Gs or something. I've dropped a few without any tragic results. I'd help but I've just had to buy a replacement drive for my brother, who let the smoke out of his....... In case it helps anyone theres a 250GB seagate closing in 8 hours at $47 on TM. |
