1138495 2010-09-20 05:00:00 I had hoped to get an Asus GTX 470 Graphics card in my new computer, but am advised that only card available is an MSI card.
Are these cards ok, or should I wait for some weeks for an Asus card.?
Any comments or advice much appreciated. Thanks.

1138496 2010-09-20 05:05:00 Likelyhood of MSI going to go out of business in the next few months? probably 0%, that is all you really need to worry about, MSI products are fairly solid. Deimos (5715)
1138497 2010-09-20 05:07:00 I would wait for the ASUS.
But I would also drop to a 460 as they are generally better than the 470.
The 460 hits the sweet-spot between price and performance for this card range, 480 is very nice but the 470 is not worth it.

460 is a different GPU than 470, runs cooler and quieter, better overclocking headroom.
Thats not to say the 470 isnt a great GPU. It needs the fan profile checked though as it spins up loud to cool a hot GPU if the graphic card has poor air-flow around it...what is the resolution of your monitor, you may not need such a powerful card!

1138500 2010-09-20 05:24:00 Before I brought my 480's I did a LOT of research into it and all the reviews I read said three things.

The 480 was top notch if you were willing to spend the cash for it
The 460 is the best of the range for price per performance
THe 470 is not worth the cost compared to the 460 and not worth the performance compared to the 480

Looking at benchmark values for those two cards (2,300 vs 2,900 for arguments sake, from here: www.videocardbenchmark.net) the 470 is roughly 20% faster than the 460

However, when you look at price ($280 for the 460 vs $566 for the 470) that's an increase of roughly 50%

So would you pay 50% more for 20% extra speed? I'd agree with the previous post, the 460 is much better value

1138502 2010-09-20 05:33:00 And for the same cost as a 470 more or less you can get two 460's in SLI that shits all over the 470 performance wise. DeSade (984)

1138504 2010-09-20 05:57:00 Greatly appreciate all your comments. I will go with the GTX 460.
As DeSade says I could get two 460's. Cheers.
