1138305 2010-09-19 10:36:00 My dearly beloved’s computer has been on line for years now without any Anti Virus protection.

The old machine (Win Me) is still as good as gold, but I thought, out of interest, I might run an “On Line” Virus check. It’s an old P3 so I’ve no intentions of burdening it with an installed AV system.

Anyway, Google gave me a selection of On Line Scanners that a Kangaroo couldn’t jump over, so the purpose of this post is to seek recommendations as to which to use.

Just have a gut feeling that some of these might cause more problems than they solve. ;)

:thanks

Not sure how good it is but it's by the some people who make NOD32 so it must be at least half decent.

1138309 2010-09-20 20:31:00 All done and nothing found after about six years on line (including facebook) without any antivirus. :)

However, eset did crash IE6 on first try but seemed to rectify itself upon restart.

And yes, a lot of people find it hard to believe that an old Dell laptop, converted to Desktop could run on ME for about 10 years, the last 6 years on the net almost continuously without any AV or Firewall and still be going good as gold.

However, wife has just told me the Air New Zealand grabaseat site has locked up IE6 so I don’t know what’s happened there.

Might have spoke to b….y soon. :o
