2010-09-18 22:04:00 | I am running Windows 7 Pro with a Phenom II 3GHz processor and 4 gig Ram. I experienced a slowing down, frequent freezes and programs 'not responding'. My PC Shop says it is spyware but fails to remove any and suggests a complete reinstall which I have just done. I am still having the same problems, though perhaps not as bad. Any suggestions? | kenbola (15339) | |
2010-09-18 22:08:00 | It could be overheating (Did you build and put it together)?? Whats the brand/model of the motherboard? | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2010-09-18 22:16:00 | Does it have an ATI graphics card? My step son has just built something similar and we have since found that his Radeon 5700 can and is causing problems | gary67 (56) | |
2010-09-18 22:28:00 | Didn't build myself - not that clever! I have done reinstalls with XP in the past, there is usually an option to format the drive first. With Win 7 I didn't seem to have that option, just repair or install Log attached Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.4 Scan saved at 9:21:42 a.m., on 19/09/2010 Platform: Windows 7 (WinNT 6.00.3504) MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.7600.16385) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\Windows\system32\Dwm.exe C:\Windows\system32\taskhost.exe C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\ASUS\GamerOSD\GamerOSD.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Essentials\msseces.exe C:\Program Files\Logitech\Logitech WebCam Software\LWS.exe C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Player\hqtray.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Motive\MotiveBrowser.exe C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exe C:\Program Files\Rainlendar2\Rainlendar2.exe C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe C:\Program Files\Memento\Memento.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Logishrd\LQCVFX\COCIManager.exe C:\Program Files\Skype\Plugin Manager\skypePM.exe C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Player\vmplayer.exe C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Player\vmware-unity-helper.exe C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe C:\Program Files\Skype\Toolbars\Shared\SkypeNames2.exe C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugin-container.exe C:\Users\Ken\Downloads\HijackThis.exe R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = go.microsoft.com R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = mail.google.com R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = go.microsoft.com R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = go.microsoft.com R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = go.microsoft.com R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = go.microsoft.com R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName = O2 - BHO: SkypeIEPluginBHO - {AE805869-2E5C-4ED4-8F7B-F1F7851A4497} - C:\Program Files\Skype\Toolbars\Internet Explorer\skypeieplugin.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NBKeyScan] "C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero8\Nero BackItUp\NBKeyScan.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ASUSGamerOSD] C:\Program Files\ASUS\GamerOSD\GamerOSD.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\Windows\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSSE] "c:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Essentials\msseces.exe" -hide -runkey O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MotiveReportAgent] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Motive\McciBootStrapper.exe" /url="-url=file://C:\Program Files\Common Files\Motive\ReportAgent.html" /browsertype=CustomMSIE /browserpath="C:\Program Files\Common Files\Motive\MotiveBrowser.exe" /hidden O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LogitechQuickCamRibbon] "C:\Program Files\Logitech\Logitech WebCam Software\LWS.exe" /hide O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VMware hqtray] "C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Player\hqtray.exe" O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ASUS SmartDoctor] C:\Program Files\ASUS\SmartDoctor\SmartDoctor.exe /start O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Sidebar] C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exe /autoRun O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Rainlendar2] C:\Program Files\Rainlendar2\Rainlendar2.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Skype] "C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe" /nosplash /minimized O4 - Startup: Advanced Registry Optimizer.lnk = C:\Program Files\Advanced Registry Optimizer\ARO.exe O4 - Startup: Logitech . | 1138230 | 2010-09-18 22:34:00 | This will be one of the probs / causes Uninstall this. Nvidia firewall aka ForceWare Network Access Manager is crap. It can causes LOTS of probs. It can also cause corrupt downloads O23 - Service: ForceWare IP service (nSvcIp) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\NetworkAccessManager\bin32\nSvcIp.exe I would uninstall this. Be careful what program you use for the registry. Some can totally screw a system up 04 - Startup: Advanced Registry Optimizer.lnk = C:\Program Files\Advanced Registry Optimizer\ARO.exe

2010-09-19 22:26:00 | Thanks again. Did all that but still have the problem | kenbola (15339) | |
2010-09-19 22:38:00 | Is CPU usage spiking when the issue occurs? Try a memtest. | inphinity (7274) | |
2010-09-19 23:49:00 | I had a similar issue once, turned out to be the main hard-drive (with Windows on it) failing. Is everything ok in a SMART test? If you don't have anything installed that can do a check try HD Sentinel at www.hdsentinel.com If you get any indications of failures with it backup your essential files straight away! Also as inphinity suggests, test the RAM - try hcidesign.com

2010-09-19 23:54:00 | If it's not a hardware issue, it might be software conflicts. Maybe try booting up in safe mode or safe mode with networking to see if problems disappear. If it's not faster then maybe due to third part utilities or a windows services feature. If so then a clean boot troubleshooting process (support.microsoft.com) (from Microsoft) may be required to determine which utility/service. | kahawai chaser (3545) | |
2010-09-20 02:00:00 | Ive seen the Logitech webcam software screw things up. No need for it to run in the background. "C:\Program Files\Logitech\Logitech WebCam Software\LWS.exe" /hide You may have loaded something not 100% win7 compatable ?? Also seen faulty HD's causing slowdowns, but thats pretty rare run msconfig untick startup items restart if that doesnt work msconfig => services =>hide MS services => untick the NON ms services restart
