I'm in the process of changing from XP. to wind.7 been thru the process of saving all the files & settings etc. with Wind. easy transfer &started to install W7. chose the CUSTOM option & partition with XP in & was told that windows must be installed to a partition formatted as NTFS. WHAT DO I DO NOW ??? as I cant go any further.

1137858 2010-09-17 06:39:00 So do you want XP and Windows 7 on 2 partitions, or wipe XP and install Win7 by itself? And are you installing Win7 32 or 64 bit? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1137859 2010-09-17 07:41:00 at the top of the install box it should say format... i think...

format to ntfs.

1137860 2010-09-18 03:46:00 Hi Speedy,
is it worth pursueing XP at this date, I will be using W7 32. although I think 2 partitions would be handy.
& Sahilcc7, there is no "format" at top of box but this is the apparent problem I can't format to ntfs.
thanks to both of you.

1137861 2010-09-18 04:29:00 You can put XP and Win7 on it, but you usually install XP then the later OS after. And you can usually create another partition in the setup screen / then format it. Whats the brand / size of this hdd youre trying to format in NTFS? How many partitions are on this hdd now? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1137862 2010-09-19 01:59:00 Speedy, the best I can do is ;-MAIN DRIVE= wdc wd1600aajs-00L7AO, VERSION 5.1.2535.0
CAPACITY =148GB. with no partitions. don't know what the brand is.
There is a 2nd Drive with 5.98GB capacity with wind.98 & some backup stuff on it. both are Fat32.
I use a Free agent driver (drive G) with 232GB as my backup & photoes etc. on it, it is NTFS.

1137863 2010-09-19 02:20:00 I would guess your main drive is Western Digital gary67 (56)
