| 859351 | 2010-02-17 07:18:00 | On TV One news tonight they had a item about Radio NZ, showing radio announcers in the studio, and I was surprised to see a reel to reel tape being used. Are audio tapes still in use at radio stations, and for that matter are tapes still used for TV? Assumed all was digital... | Strommer (42) | ||

I had a bad experience with reel-to-reel just this week at a jam session where we were laying down the drums first (synth-keyboard, but live) and then the bass-line (me) and it was such bad quality even with new tape and clean heads . Now, I know - the heads aren't new - but they are pretty "recently new" Teac units that were top-of-the-line just a couple of generations ago - so -----------grrrr------ We then switched to my web book MIDI with an SD card and it was magic from that point on . No more analog 'n ferrous oxide for me! |

The probably keep one going for any old material that hasn't be transfered to digital. As for TV I think most are on a server based system, But digital tape is used as well. The old 1" masters have long gone for broadcast. |
