860333 2010-02-21 22:09:00 I think these problems are post Starlets especially the 1980 models.
These might be problems to yanks and poms but kiwis should be able to handle stuff like this.
Who hasn't got a jandal jammed in the accelerator or a had bottle of piss or canopiss has rolled under the pedals stopping the brake etc?

860334 2010-02-22 01:05:00 My first Toyota was $1000. I did no repairs to it at all until I broke it.
This one cost $1500. In 4 years I still have not had to do anything other than tyres. It has done 330,000km and uses no oil.

Well, you're one of those lucky ones.

860335 2010-02-22 01:10:00 Some four years ago I sold a 1988 Starlet for $800.00. I see it's still running around town. Sweep (90)

860339 2010-02-22 07:47:00 Yea i said Starlets are rear real drive I wasn't referring to corollas. I believe later starlets changed to FWD.

860341 2010-02-22 10:56:00 Agree with the others, starlets are fun little cars, and cheap as chips to run.

Only galant I would drive is VR-4, the rest just don't have the go go.

And whoever it was that recommended checkin out a prelude...wt*? No one wants there first car to break down every time it leaves the driveway

Inspections aren't that great.

A friend of mine sold a crashed prelude with a blown head and a whole range of electrical problems, and some transmission issues getting stuck in a gear if use tiptronic, a few months later another friend bought it off the same person after getting an AA inspection.

AA inspection said "possibly had a minor crash" (it wasn't), the fourth cylinder was lacking on compression but they didn't "mention" anything about that and said the car was in generally good condition.

He wasn't the happiest person in the world when he found what a dud it really was, being stuck in second on the motorway ended up boiling his radiator and getting towed. In the end spent close to what he bought it for fixing it up.

AA offers mechanical insurance/warranty (as does toyota) which anyone should consider. Won't cover wear and tear and it does cost a bit, but in the end it's some piece of mind.
