1138526 2010-09-21 00:35:00 Why isn't smart security recommended?

Don't get me wrong - it's very good . It's just overkill when the OP simply has a virus to remove, rather than needing ongoing protection . Given Supersi's stated browsing habits, Security Suite would probably stop him doing what he likes to do anyway . . . . ;)

Your log looks ok to me - leave NOD32 installed for a while and see if you get any real-time detections . . . . I did, which is how I knew I had W32\Mebroot . Also, keep an ear out for a clicking sound (the sound IE makes when you open a new link) .

1138527 2010-09-21 01:00:00 Just make sure the Nod32 is the latest version - I don't mean the Virus Sig's, but the actual version, which is 4.2.64.12.

I had a customer last week, that did a scan with an out of date version, 4.0 something, and when I upgraded it to the latest, it found some infections that were hiding.

1138528 2010-09-21 01:01:00 NOD32 is not very good for detecting spyware (never was). It misses too many infections .
Run malwarebytes as well (at least)

Best idea, you being a "big boy", just format & reload. It may end up being quicker. :badpc:

Quote:"First things first..I sometimes download and install software that might be dodgy..
I just want an explanation..."
The explanation may be the dodgy software & disabled AV ??

Keygens are bad.

hold up there,

NOD32 is the AV that is most recommended on this forum so im not sure how you've come to that conclusion.

1138531 2010-09-21 01:11:00 The only way to know for sure you have removed the infection will be to format and reinstall. Like 1101 said, you seem used to doing this, so it will probably be quicker anyway. Agent_24 (57)
