| 860390 | 2010-02-22 07:16:00 | That said, Auckland's trains aren't much better. www.nzherald.co.nz robbyp, Telecom are a monopoly and they provided compensation twice. Yes but Auckland's trains are everyone else's left overs. Just think if we hadn't all those $$mils of Auckland tax payers money into Wellington electric train system over the past 50 years we in Auckland may have also had a modernish electric system as well. Remember Robbies rapid rail in the 1970s that was killed by the polies in Wellington?? When I arrived back in Auckland in 1978 from Wellington who were about to get their new supper dupper Hungarian units we in Auckland were one step removed from steam trains.. |

Had the government not stuffed around we could have had electric trains by the RWC. One class of train has actually served longer in Auckland than it has in Perth. |

| 860393 | 2010-02-22 09:38:00 | "Every time I've used them I've been very impressed, what's suddenly started happening now to stuff them up?" Just as a guess, but: Middle management getting more and more involved in the day to day running of the operation on the ground, justifying their role to upper level management by causing lower level staff dealing with actual problems to have to raise more paperwork detailing work done, staff becoming more and more disenchanted with the whole process disengaging from the job and just going through the motions. Management insistence that all worker conversations related to the job go through management staff and not directly worker to worker. In fact workers really shouldn't talk at all. Final result: even though much larger numbers overall are involved in the process, increasing numbers of management types and less workers actually doing the job. F'ups everywhere. lol. And here I was thinking it had something to do with the major track upgrades and in particular the third line into central station. Certainly they have done major work on our line, made all the stations bigger, widened the track for the new trains later this year, made the tunnels deeper. Pretty big undertaking and the trains have been pretty good, certainly I haven't been late yet this year. Nice theory about middle management - but no evidence exists they have any middle management, as far as I can tell the "workers" talk too much and aren't managed by anyone. Maybe a middle manager showing up would actually help. |
