| 860277 | 2010-02-22 09:26:00 | I don't think Mazdas are all that reliable... Meh. To my knowledge Mazda and Nissan have never shared models at any time. Ford and Mazda had a model-share partnership but it was dissolved years ago, about the time that the Mazda 323/Laser and 626/Telstar/TX5 went out of production. In terms of reliability, I think Mazda ranks in the top 3 with Toyota and Honda. In fact I'd rank them just about equal. Over the last 20+ years I've flogged a series of Mazdas mercilessly for over 1,000,000 Km and never had a mechanical failure, or an electrical failure other than light bulbs. I currently have a Mazda6 & Mrs T has a Demio, which replaced a 323. Cheers Billy |

| 860278 | 2010-02-22 09:52:00 | I had a Mazda 1500 ute - it barely had the power to carry enough gas to get to the next petrol station. Put a Datsun 180B motor and GB into it and voila - usable power to spare, and more economical too. The current vehicle (a Suzuki) has a Mazda 1800 motor, goes well, reliable and reasonably economical. I have driven a Mazda with a Holden body (rebadged statesman with rotary), and Holdens with Nissan engines. It all seems a bit of a raffle sometimes. |

If you Google the Wingroad like pctek you'll find that Nissan at various times have provided it to Subaru as a Leone wagon, Mazda as a Familia wagon and Mitsubishi as a Lancer cargo. Almost as bad as the number of DVD writers that turn out to be Liteon. |

There doesn't seem to be any cross over into the passenger vehicle market . I spent a lot of time on the factory floor in the NZ Ford, Toyota, Nissan and Mazda plants before they shut down, and interestingly the Ford Laser was not built as well as the Mazda 323 . For some reason you tend to see more smoky Lasers than 323s as well, though Mitsubishi seem to be the all-time smoke screen champs . I suspect that the motor for the Ford version was assembled in a different plant to that for the Mazda, possibly in Oz . Speaking of Oz, I was in the Ford Melbourne plant some years back and was walking past the Falcon block assembly line when my attention was grabbed by the sight of a guy hammering a piston and rod assembly down the bore using a block of wood and a large mallet . The Japanese have a few secrets as well, I was in a Nissan plant in Japan and strayed briefly from the marked path to investigate a funny noise . There was a little man sitting on the floor with a block of wood and a file, adjusting a hole size in a series of small panel parts . I was dragged away by the guide who gave me a right talking to in Japanese and I don't think he was inviting me home to dinner with his family either! Windscreen installation was an art-form to enjoy, a couple of well placed and weighted bangs with a rubber mallet on the top of the A pillars and it would slot in perfectly, but doors were adjusted using a 3x2 between the sill and door bottom . I think the 323/Laser difference came down to the type of piston rings fitted . One brand had rings that bedded in well . |
