862326 2010-02-28 05:58:00 At least you can give an Apple to the teacher. :clap :banana

Bloody hell none of us are that rich, giving away an apple indeed when all we can afford on here is windows. Which to me is a far better way to spend your money than on frivolous fancy coloured boxes that do the same job at 5x the cost

862327 2010-02-28 06:28:00 If you had one, wouldn't you be as keen to pass it on as you would an unpinned hand-grenade? R2x1 (4628)
862328 2010-02-28 06:39:00 Give the teacher a dose of vista and your curriculum will be full of rubbish patrols

862333 2010-02-28 08:24:00 Yeah, welcome back Convair.

My first PC (ignoring the 64K Spectrum) was an 8086 (I think) with 480K.
I remember adding chips (RAM modules) to bring it up to a massive 640K.
In those days the memory was a black plastic block, about the size of a lego, with 12 or so metal legs hanging out the sides.
Had about 12MB HDD if memory serves. It was replaced with a machine with a 'massive' 20MB HDD, which sadly was fired when it's cable worked loose from the edge of the circuit board (before the IDE connector).
It was replaced with a 40MB HDD, at great expense, but I thought I was a #&*$@ king with all those MB!

Now I'm hanging out for 3TB drives. Who'd have ever imagined storage needs would go so crazy.

862334 2010-02-28 08:27:00 This thread's starting to sound like a Monty Python skit.

"You were lucky to live in the bottom of a lake. There were 150 of us living in a shoe box in the middle of a road. We dreamed of living in a lake."

You had it easy

In the early 90s hdds were around $1 per meg. Imagine the price of a terabyte drive lol.
There was a DSE ad the new 25 mb hard drive all you will ever need.
