861711 2010-02-27 08:38:00 how would a parenting course help parents to stop their child sneaking out of the house? to stop someone sneaking out wouldn't the parents need to have the keys for the door locks and have locks on the windows so the child can't get out? but then you can't imprison a child can you?, that's illegal. So again, parenting course for this, why?

I never said parenting course did I? I merely said that outside help should be given to the parents if the case demands it.

It would have been great I agree.

In my day you could not use a biro as we were told it would damage your handwriting. Remember fountain pens which leaked everywhere?

Back in 1975 I used to be a traffic cop in Auckland City and several times found kids around 8 - 12 wandering around at 3:00 am or so.

Mum and Dad had told them to "get lost" and most had more cash in their pockets than I did.

Good parenting? I don't think so.

What is your actual gripe?

I absolutely mean no malice in the following question, but how old are you?

A question which I have been wanting to ask I admit but have not yet done so.

It is, of course, possible, that lance4k may have been born on the 29th Feb and only gets a birthday on leap years perhaps.

If so then he won't get one this year will he!

I may as well also mention that age does not always mean maturity.

so what if they were wandering around the city?
were they smashing any windows?
stealing anything?

what's wrong with those kids just wandering around the city at that time? are you saying if they were wandering around at 4pm it will be fine? are you saying if they were 21 years old it will be fine?

to me, the time of day a child is wandering around has nothing to do whether a parent is good or bad. child may just feel like getting a bit of exercise at 3am.

my gripe is parents should not be punished for a crime they don't commit. just because a child robs a bank, that doesn't mean the parents are bad people. the child may have got $100 allowance from his parents and wanted some more but the parents couldn't afford it so the child went and robbed a bank. I hope parents are not going to have to do a parenting course for this.

861717 2010-02-28 08:42:00 Kids should be home and tucked up in bed at 0300hrs. Exercise what a load of ****.
A minimum parenting requirement is knowing where your kids are I would have thought.

why 3am? why not 2.30am? why not 1am? why do you find 3am wrong for kids to be out? is it because it's dark and more dangerous? if so, couldn't it be dangerous for adults too? seriously dude lots of kids go to parties that finish well after 3am.

the parent may know their child is wandering around at 3am. i wouldn't have a problem with my child doing that. i believe in freedom of choice so i'll let the children decide when they want to come home.

huh? what's this got to do with the thread title? you should explain why you disagree with me, unless you can't explain because you know i'm right. my children are happy having freedom of choice. do u like freedom of choice?

why are you generally against abortions? why don't you think women should have a choice on whether they have an abortion or not? it's their body and unborn child.
