1139337 2010-09-24 08:50:00 I have Outlook Express 6. I was sorting my contacts alphabetically and went to delete one contact (a friend who passed away a while back), but wasn't paying attention to the fact the I still had the entire list highlighted and now they are all gone! Not in Deleted Items or Recycle Bin. Feel like such a retard!
How can I get these back? I have had a look online and all I can find are restore programmes to download. Is this really necessary? If so can someone recommend a reliable free version? Or else give me instructions on where to look for the lost file and reimport back in to Outlook.

Thanks

1139338 2010-09-24 09:00:00 You may have a backup copy of your *.WAB file where your contacts are normally stored.

Have a look at this link:-

1139339 2010-10-06 08:15:00 Thanks for that help, I managed to locate the .wab file which is where it should be but when I open it the contacts are not there - i.e the address book is there but empty.

Any other suggestions? I have had a hunt around on the net but other that sites that offer to "sell" me a solution I haven't found an answer and I can't believe I am the only twit ever to have done such a thing!

Cheers:help:

1139340 2010-10-06 08:20:00 Did you find a .wab~ file? Or a .wa~ file? Snorkbox (15764)
1139341 2010-10-06 09:42:00 Yes, I did as instruction said and saved a copy and renamed from .WAB~ to just .WAB and opened with OE. But the backup had none in either. I did a search also as suggest with *.WA? which brought up the WAB files and heaps of WAV sound files, including sound effects from a game I have so that could be fun to use later. But still no further luck so far...:annoyed: Spoodleydog (15978)

If you can't find your .wab file with your contacts list, then your best option will be a system restore point to the date prior to your accidental deletion. Usually this will restore all your files & data.
