861057 2010-02-24 00:03:00 Still it happens to people, Just today got a panic call from a person - said she got an email from a friend (or so she thought)a couple of days ago, appears to have a hidden exe attachment (.jpg.exe) -- she told me it was strange as her friend doesn't know how to attach things to emails - But because it came from her "friend" she opened it -- and all hell broke lose.

Now shes getting calls from people in her address book saying she infected their computer with some bug Via a email from her.

Her PC will be ok to clean out, but she asked if hers was cleaned would it clean the others as well, the same way as it infected them -------errrrrr no :groan:

861058 2010-02-24 00:19:00 I only have to pay for the data I use - at a gentle price point too :) R2x1 (4628)

861060 2010-02-24 18:07:00 This topic has been a thorn in my paw for ages, not so much about my own data caps and use, but the exploitation of folk who know no better, being migrated onto broadband plans with excessive data capacity that always goes unused... at the profit of the ISP.

The likes of Granny who gets a PC from a department store, with all the deals bundled in. She has a 10GB/month plan that frankly she knows nothing about.

She gets a few JPG files of the grandchildren emailed to her, but apart from that she would be perfectly fine on dialup, or a 500MB/month broadband plan. Meanwhile, the ISP gets her money every month indefinitely for doing absolutely nothing to earn it.

As for my own cap - I punished my ISP last month. I barely used my 10GB for most of the month, but in the last few days I blasted 25GB through it before they throttled me. So I paid for 10GB and got an extra 15GB free. Ihug really need to sort their $#!+ out in that respect.

But imagine if your household power was treated the way your data is treated. Oh, you've hit your monthly cap. We'll suspend your hot water, your ovens, fridges. We'll give you enough power to keep the lights on and the alarm clock running, or we'll charge you 5 times what it's worth if you want to keep the power flowing normally.

I've hit 120GB on a 20GB cap before they throttled me.
