1139535 2010-09-25 09:49:00 Just got Office 2010 pro for SWMBO as she is a student have installed it on her XP machine SP3.

The online activation fails with this error 0x8007000d. I have been googling like anything and so far none of the fixes work, reluctant to try registry edits at this point.

If I select the phone option and then NZ it fails to give me the ID that it is supposed to generate.

Only Windows firewall and MS security essentials installed.

Anyone come across this problem? :badpc:

1139537 2010-09-25 10:18:00 Go back to the supplier and make 'consumer guarantee' noises.
Support for this sort of thing is why you pay the money isn't it?

Support for this sort of thing is why you pay the money isn't it? Com'n get real, the CGA wont cover that - its simply a fault in the Operating system someplace, or a reg fault.

Seen that before with Office 2007 - it wouldn't install on a customers PC, yet it installed perfectly on a workshop PC, in the end it was a corrupted reg that was causing the problem.

That's a bit drastic...

Have you tried un-installing Office? I would do this and then install it on a different machine just to see what happens...

Install it on a fresh copy of XP... see if that works... It may be that her registry is corrupted or similar...

Just a thought.

:)

Yes, I was being a bit facetious.

It just irk's me the sort of crap people put up with from MS.

What other consumer product would you pay good money for, only to get it home, find that you are not allowed to use it until the manufacturer says so, the mechanism to do this does not work, and then you have to fix it yourself (if able) or (in a lot of people's cases) pay someone to fix it for you.

With the quality (and price) of alternative software available, I continue to scratch my head in amazement.

I would expect to have to solve any issues yourself if you choose free software but things like this really begs the question, "What are you getting for your money?"

One of the common arguments for paying for MS software is that it "is supported".

I would be interested to hear if anybody (edit: consumer level not enterprise) could tell me when they last got any real support (without having to pay for it) from Microsoft for an issue they were having?

In response to fred-Fishes post -- Sometimes its third party software that can cause problems.
A real classic is Norton Antivirus (just to name one) -- seen that screw lots of Windows installs,Thats not the fault OF MS.

I've had the same thing happen with Linux, some Music program I went to install, turned the whole thing to a quivering heap of crap, before that it ran fine.

As for MS supporting -- I have rung up MS on a customers behalf with problems, and they have fixed it, normally to do with activation. 1 or 3 people doesn't count as enterprise.
