863441 2010-03-03 07:08:00 It was a diesel. But if you as a parent had a V8, why wouldn't you let your kid drive it? Would you go out and buy them another car?
As long as they kid is supervised, and is not going to get silly. You don't need a V8 to kill yourself, anything will do just fine.
Most boy racer cars aren't even as fast as your grandmother's car. It's how they drive it. Give them a 1300cc and they will still get to whatever speed they like.

Supervised - Yes. Unsupervised - No.

My parents wouldn't let me drive their V8 mainly because of the insurance bill!

It will never get to specialist questions. But what I would say is, get everyone to sit their restricted and full license on a manual regardless what they want to drive.
If you learn to drive on a manual, and this is solely my opinion, you get a better understanding of the dynamics of driving.

Of course it gives you a better understanding of the car. But what happens if you only own autos? Do you have to go buy a new car?

863442 2010-03-03 07:11:00 How many parents would be stupid enough to let their 15yr old drive their V8? Not the mention the insurance bills!

Yep increasing the punishment would be a good deterrent.

Definitely.

If they don't then they definitely should. Also 10yrs would be better. I know alot of middle ages people who manage to forget alot of the road rules. Basically only a 20-30min refresher course.

Not the common sense questions. More of the specialist questions like tyre tread, how far can this hang over the side or the front. Thrown in with a few common sense questions.

Yeep. I don't think there were cars around in the middle ages. :clap

Since when is it the parents job to provide a car?

Hell, I'm 35 and have never driven my old boys wagon. I learned to drive in a truck, and when I wanted a car I went to work and bought one.

I think it already is. Have a look in your local paper. There are usually ads there for that. Free training and free licensing.

I've got a friend whose 20 next week and is only just got his restricted. His parents never let him drive their car and he has spent a FORTUNE on driving lessons.

863448 2010-03-03 07:36:00 Its all right for all you town/city dwelling yuppies but spare a thought about the hardship it will cause in rural areas.
No one gives a **** about them. Its all about you, selfish buggers.

What utter crap. I lived rural in the UK and learnt to drive at 18, we had no bus service yet I still did my apprenticeship in another town. Kids are lazy get a bike like I did

863450 2010-03-03 07:47:00 I suspect that with costs and congestion plus legislative meddling going the way they are, the age of driving is almost over. R2x1 (4628)
