863125 2010-03-02 23:56:00 That's because it used to be a runway. The "X"'s on the landing chart mean just that. And because those "X''s are also painted on the surface a pilot can see them.

Landing or takeoff on a taxiway can be allowed. An example being the taxiway at Auckland International is often used as a runway during maintenance.

16/34 at Paraparaumu used to accommodate F-27's and the (very) occasional V807, so it's not exactly small fry in the aviation world.

Agreed. Now goes off to land a Lear Jet on 16 arriving from Palmerston North with a tail wind. I was so hoping for a southerly.

FlightSim 2004 BTW.

863128 2010-03-03 02:23:00 You would have to be a ******* brave pilot to take off in a Viscount from Paraparam unless its shorter now. prefect (6291)

I think the instance I refer to was something to do with a CAA certification for emergency landings. And a takeoff weight severely restricted to minimum fuel and crew only.

863130 2010-03-03 03:06:00 Plus, you have to start the take-off a long way back in time. R2x1 (4628)

Too true dont think there are any viscounts still flying.
Was known as a good aircraft but I never worked out why, instead of having 4 low power darts it didnt just have 2 napier elands or tynes or something with a bit of power.
The dart compressor is just 2 merlin supercharger impellors back to back.

The fact is,you either can or you can't,not a pilot decision!

863133 2010-03-03 04:44:00 You could sorta, It would be a cowboy kick the tyres, light the fires, last one off is a homo type of pilot. Start right back on the extension, next to no fuel, no pax, hold it on the brakes as long as possible, control wheel right back in your chest. Lose an engine on take off the crew would later be looking at the potatoes from underneath. Or if burnt in an urn.
Not to mention the people killed by death at the end of the runway its built up.
