1139805 2010-09-27 17:31:00 I love my WD drives.

I've opted for the My Book edition:
pbtech.co.nz

Rather than the Elements edition:
pbtech.co.nz

The My Book has better ventilation, and to be honest makes me feel safer about it in the long-haul. That said, I've got them standing vertically, so they could suffer knocks from people kicking them (They're in the TV cabinet currently on the floor), which could be to their detriment.

1139806 2010-09-27 22:47:00 Thanks for your replies.

Another consideration I have is off site storage of my backups.

At present I have two Adata 500 gig drive these are very nice as they are in a rubber housing, and are supposed to be able to take vibrations and drops etc, and deep sea diving.

I like the idea of being able to take my backups to another place - at present I have a storage shed. As we always have to worry about fire or theft, as well as hardware failure.

I am also taken with these Western Digital My Book drives that have a USB port and say they do automatic continuous back up. (I see a couple of you have them)

They are used by some professional outdoor photographers who needs a copy on the laptop and on a backup drive while in the backcountry.

1139808 2010-09-27 23:05:00 I think I will stay away from those Western Digitals with their built in My Book software, it sounded good, but apparantly it is hard to configure and hard to remove. Digby (677)
