1139556 2010-09-25 23:32:00 Try using a new HDD. If it happened to me I would think the likely suspect is the HDD. But that depends how badly shaken it was. qazwsxokmijn (102)

Only if you have household contents insurance .

I just tried booting in safe mode and everything was fine . Any fixes?

If everything works fine in safe mode it is less likely to be a hardware issue .

Was the computer on when the earthquake occurred?

Normally as part of householder's policy, PC Builder did mention "could I get insurance" .

Lurking .

1139559 2010-09-26 21:18:00 My computer started to have cold boots after the earthquake and also shuts down randomly sometimes 20minutes after booting or even 2 hours. Also my o/s Windows 7 Ultimate freezes after the "welcome" menu and i cant use the keyboard and mouse. Before the welcome part the mouse and keyboard is all good and iv'e tested it. Lastly the network socket on my motherboard stopped working.(i know this because im running linux on my main PC atm and everything works fine except for the cold boots and the random shutting down)

Could I get insurance for this? Or should I change the motherboard?

Thank you:horrified
