| 862588 | 2010-03-01 09:40:00 | Cool story Metla - brought back memories of my honeymoon in 1987 . Picton to Dunedin in 8 hours on a fully laden 1985 XJ900 (tank bag, panniers, pack - oh, and wife), including a stop outside Christchurch for lunch for an hour to work the blood and feeling back into our bums . About this time of the year too, so great weather . . . . I also remember coming out of the Buller Gorge, on the same trip on the way home, heading east and tootling up to 220km/h - then seeing some white spots in/on the road waaay in the distance . Started slowing (I thought quite rapidly), then when I realised they were 'free range sheep' and getting very close, looked at the speedo to find I was still clipping along at over 100km/h - yet it felt I was going slow enough to be able to hop off and push the bike!!!! I needed clean underwear after that!! We went down the east coast - got as far as Edendale where we visited rellies the came back up via Queenstown and Haast Pass (interesting on an unsealed road with a big heavy bike and road tyres!) and the West Coast - but we did it over a week or so (apart from the initial epic run south) . Really enjoyed the West Coast . Awesome roads and scenery down there . Must start saving for a new bike (not a self-powered one!) . . . . |

First year in group of 5 my bike was smallest engine had to give it death in the corners and windy bits to keep up or get ahead. Next year someone came with a 500cc single cylinder Honda which slowed the group down thank ****. When I say slowed down I mean to about 150 kph lol. |
